The Two — abstract figurative sculpture

The Two is a slender, rising form in which a single mass gives way to two rounded heads leaning gently towards one another. The sculpture is entirely abstract, yet instantly legible as a couple — two figures fused into one body, inseparable. The silhouette undulates softly, moving from a broader base through a waist at mid-height towards a narrow neck — a line that calls to mind a dance or an embrace. Along the right side runs a band of parallel, deeply incised grooves filled with a cool turquoise; this single accent of colour contrasts with the warm, natural tone of the surface and underlines the movement of the whole form. The piece rests on a rough-textured block and a flat dark plate.

The sculpture is entirely handmade — carved, sanded, hand-incised and coloured, so the run of the grooves, the intensity of the colour and the natural pattern of the surface are unique to every piece.
