On Watch — figurative sculpture "Heron"

On Watch is a sculpture of a wading bird caught in a moment of concentrated waiting — head drawn into the shoulders, body tilted slightly forward, gaze fixed on a single point. The whole stance speaks of the tension just before movement. The plumage is treated broadly and painterly: instead of detailed feathering, the artist has left torn planes, tool marks and deep hollows that convey the softness of a bird's body better than literal description ever could. The surface carries a cool grey-blue patina with lighter wear across the raised areas. Against it stands the smooth, polished beak in a warm copper tone and the slender single leg that lifts the silhouette above the flat base.

The sculpture is entirely handmade — modelled, cast and hand-patinated by the artist, so the texture, the marks of the modelling and the shade of the patina remain unique to each piece.
