Golden Olive Tree — decorative sculpture

Golden Olive Tree is an extraordinarily detailed composition in which a dense, spherical crown made of hundreds of individually attached leaves grows from a single trunk. Each leaf has the slender, lance-like shape and fine veining characteristic of the olive, and the warm, softly gleaming gold makes the crown light up with every shift of the light. Small fruits are scattered among the leaves in two tones — the deep black of ripe olives and the vivid green of young ones. The trunk is covered in a multicoloured patina running from turquoise and blue through copper to rusty red, a strong, painterly contrast against the gold. The whole piece rests on a smooth round metal disc.

The sculpture is entirely handmade — every leaf shaped and attached individually, the branches bent by hand and the trunk hand-patinated, so the shape of the crown, the placement of the fruit and the run of the patina colours are unique to each piece.
